TRAFFIC ALERT: GASLIGHT CRITERIUM. On Sunday, August 18th, Gaslight Village and surrounding streets will host the annual Gaslight Village Criterum, a bicycle racing event. Several roads will be closed for the day for the race, including Wealthy Street through Gasight Village, Croswell, Lake Drive and Lakeside Drive (see map). These roads will be closed from approximately 7:30 am until 5:30 pm.

TASTE OF EAST GRAND RAPIDS. The annual Taste of East Grand Rapids will take place on Thursday, August 22nd from 5-9 pm in Gaslight Village. In addition to "tastes" of special menu items from local restaurants, there will be music and family-friendly fun. More information.

MOVIE IN THE PARK: HAPPY FEET 2. Friday, August 23, 8:45 PM - 10:30 PM @ John Collins Park. Join us for FREE family-friendly entertainment on the shores of Reed's Lake. Movies will be shown on an inflatable screen at dusk. Come early for the best seat and bring your lawn chair or blanket. Snacks will be available for purchase from the MacSnack Wagon and KDL Teen Group, with proceeds to EGR Parks & Recreation and Teen Library Programs. Movies in the Park are sponsored by Macatawa Bank, KDL Freinds of the Library and EGR Parks & Rec. Dept.

SUMMER CONCERT: JILL JACK. Tuesday, August 27, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM @ John Collins Park. Family friendly free event! Bring your lawn chair, blanket, and picnic basket. NO barbecues, grilling, open fires or alcohol are allowed in the park. Dogs must be on a leash at all times. If severe weather concerts may be cancelled and will not be re-scheduled. Old Tyme Trolley: A Time Travel Tour of East Grand Rapids. Embark on the Reeds Lake Line trolley to visit historically-significant spots in and around the city. Meet Local Author Susan Lovell. Tuesday, September 17, 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM @ the EGR Library. The former EGR Schools teacher and founder of Cadence newspaper will sell and sign copies of her recently published novel, The Sandpiper. Susan also will talk about the differences between writing a novel and writing a memoir.

Sherlock Holmes: Unlock the Mysteries of Staging a Master Sleuth. Wednesday, September 18, 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM @ the EGR Library. Grand Rapids Civic Theatre Director Bruce Tinker will talk about the challenges, successes and little-known details that go into a performance of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famous detective series. Presented in partnership with Grand Rapids Civic Theatre.

Join us for a morning of learning and receive professional development hours or just learn some great information about early childhood -- perfect for parents or child care providers! Lego Block Party. Sunday, September 29, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM @ the EGR Library. Design, build and bond. Bring the whole family together and create a towering monument using the library's building bricks. The best part? No big mess at home to clean up.

NEW BOOK DETAILS HISTORY OF RAMONA PARK. If you're interested in local history, you may want to check out the new book "Remarkable Ramona" by Gail M. Snow. The history, entertainment, amusements and events of Ramona Park are told through narrative, photographs, historical archives, newspaper clippings and stories from those who enjoyed the park. There will be an author talk/booksigning at Schuler Books on Thursday, September 12 @ 7:00 pm.

HOLIDAY CLOSURES. All City offices will be closed on Monday, September 2nd for the Labor Day holiday.

The Library will be also be closed on Monday, September 2nd. Sunday hours at the Library resume on Sunday, September 8th.
