STATEMENT FROM MAYOR SEIBOLD.  In light of this weekend’s tragic incident, our hearts go out to the victims, families and community in Orlando. The City Staff, Commissioners and myself are deeply saddened by this act of hate against the LGBTQ community. Creating a safe and inclusive community in East Grand Rapids has long been a priority of ours. Please join us in sending thoughts and prayers to all those affected by this senseless act.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE.  The Lake Drive project is fully underway and moving along well. Lake Drive is shut down from Hall to Plymouth with construction activity taking place between Conlon and Bagley.   This also includes the intersection of Lake/Breton. We understand this is a major artery through the City so we appreciate everyone's patience. Through traffic needs to adhere to the posted detours.  For residents in the area traveling through neighborhoods, please pay attention for children playing. An overview of the project can be found here.

Current Project Progress:

  • Water main replacement on Lake from Conlon into the intersection of Breton/Lakeside is near complete
  • Storm sewer replacement on Lake between Conlon and Breton is in progress
  • The road surface on Lake has been milled out this week on Lake from Bagley to existing removals from phase 1  including the  Breton/Lake/Lakeside intersection
  • The traffic signal has been removed from the Breton/Lake/Lakeside intersection (will be replaced as part of the project)

FIRE PIT REGULATIONS.  A warm fire on a summer night is a favorite of many. Freestanding fire pits or chimineas burning wood are legal in EGR. Fire pits or chimineas must be 6 feet from any building or fencing and 25 feet from combustible materials. The incineration of leaves, paper or other combustible material outside of a building or structure is prohibited.

WATER-SEWER RATES INCREASE JULY 1.  Most residential customers will see an increase of $5 to $10 in their monthly bill. The new rates will provide funding to repair and replace the aging infrastructure of the water/sewer system. A significant percentage of the water lines under our streets are nearing the end of their life expectancy and have had multiple leaks/breaks in the last few years. The additional funding will go directly to address these issues so that our water/sewer system continues to provide you with safe drinking water and reliable sewer service. If you have questions about the rate increase or would like an estimate on your new monthly bill, contact Keyla in the Finance Department at 616.949.2110.

FIREWORKS REGULATIONS.  State law permits the use of consumer fireworks in celebration of our nation’s 10 federal holidays. On those holidays, “consumer fireworks” will be permitted in EGR on the day before, day of and day following the national holiday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 1 a.m. At all other times, fireworks are illegal to use in EGR.

GARBAGE PICK UP. Please remember, EGR has "rear-yard pickup" regulation of household trash to keep our streets from becoming cluttered with trash containers. Waste containers must be kept next to the house or garage or out of sight behind the structure -- not brought to the curb. Thank you for your attention in this matter.
