COMMUNITY CENTER OPEN HOUSE. The City of East Grand Rapids and KDL – East Grand Rapids branch will host a community event to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the Community Center’s opening. The public is invited to attend from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 24.More details here.

TASTE OF EAST. It's time again for Taste of East! This fun, family friendly event features food from our local restaurants and activities for the kids. There will be a special brew on tap called the “Sunken Piano,” which was crafted by GLVBA members at Saugatuck Brewing. For more information, click here.

MOVIES IN THE PARK. Head down to John Collins Park for the teen-friendly, blockbuster hit “The Hunger Games – Mockingjay Pt. 2” on Aug. 19. Movies begin at dusk. For more information, click here.

POOLS. The High School pool will reopen on Aug. 10 at 5:30 a.m. after undergoing extensive updates. The pool schedule can be found here.   
The Wealthy Pool will be closed for annual cleaning and repairs from Aug. 22 to Sept. 6 and will reopen on Sept. 7.

CONSTRUCTION PROJECT UPDATE. The Lake Drive construction project is starting to come together very nicely. Paving of the base layer of asphalt on the western half of the project (Lake-Breton to Bagley) has taken place and curb was placed this week on the eastern half of the project (Lake-Breton to Conlon). SANITARY SEWER SYSTEMS. EGR has modified our sanitary sewer system backup policy. Letters were recently mailed out to outline what this change entails. For more information on sanitary sewer systems, click here.

LAKE INSPECTION AND ALGAE TREATMENT.  Professional Lake Management will be inspecting Reeds Lake on Monday, August 8 and may perform spot algae treatments if necessary.  There will not be any contact restrictions associated with this treatment.


KENT CO. POLICE CHIEFS OPEN LETTER. Police Chiefs from Kent County, including EGR Public Safety Dir. Mark Herald, joined together to send an open letter that address some of the issues that have surfaced in recent weeks.  
“We feel compelled to do this because we care about our communities, and we care about our interactions with the citizens we proudly serve.”

SUMMER TAXES DUE.  Summer property taxes are due by 5 p.m. on Monday, August 15.  Postmarks cannot be accepted as being received by the due date, so make sure to plan ahead for making the payment.  There is a secure 24/7 dropbox located just inside the entrance door of the Community Center for your convenience.  Questions can be directed to 616.949.2110.

STORM WATER DRAINS. The Public Works Dept. would like to remind residents that only rain goes in the drain. EGR maintains a storm sewer system that discharges storm water into local watersheds. Click here for tips to help reduce flooding and have a positive impact on water quality in our local watersheds.

RHOADES MCKEE TRIATHLON.  Registration for the Rhoades McKee Triathlon is now open! If you haven't registered, there is still time before registration fees increase on Aug. 11. New this year: there is both an olympic and sprint distance – check out the website for all the entry options.
