Next Election
The next scheduled election is the Presidential Election on Tuesday, November 8, 2016. The last day to register to vote for this election is Tuesday, October 11, 2016.

Application for Absentee Ballot

To avoid lines on election day, consider voting mid-morning or mid-afternoon, download a sample ballot before the election so you can read through all the candidates and proposals, and make sure your voter registration is up to date at your current address.

Photo Identification
Michigan law requires voters to show a valid photo ID at the polls. If you do not have a photo ID, you can fill out a simple affidavit to this effect and then vote as usual. Acceptable forms of ID are: 
  • Michigan driver's license
  • Michigan identification card
  • Student ID
  • Tribal ID
  • Passport

City Commission Election
The city holds its elections for the mayor and city commissioners in November of each odd-numbered year. The deadline to file for these offices is in mid April. Interested candidates must be a registered voter of the city in the district they are filing for office, have lived in the city for at least one year, and submit 25 signatures from voters within the area you are running for election in.

Become an election worker for East Grand Rapids. The city is always in need of dedicated men and women to help administer local elections. Although the days are long, the rewards are many. No prior experience needed; all training provided.
