National Night Out

About the National Night Out

National Night Out is celebrated annually on the first Tuesday night in August. The event is designed to:
  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
  • Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back
To celebrate, neighborhoods all over East Grand Rapids get together for block parties and the Department hosts an open house. For more information, contact the school community liaison officer at 616-949-7010.

One McGruff suit is available to rent through the department. Rental requires a $100 deposit. Contact our office at 616-949-7010 to inquire.
