CITY MANAGER’S OFFICE & FINANCE
WEST NILE VIRUS UPDATE
Mosquitos testing positive for West Nile Virus have been found in East Grand Rapids by the Kent County Health Department, which has testing sites located throughout the county.

The City has treated all storm sewer catch basins with biological larvicide pellets and continues to monitor the situation. We advise residents, community members and visitors to follow Health Department guidelines, including wearing bug spray with a minimum of 25% DEET, covering exposed skin when able and avoiding areas with high insect concentration between dusk and dawn. For more information on how to protect yourself and your family and prevent spread on private property, visit our website.

SUMMER PROPERTY TAXES

  • Dropbox: The City has a drop box located in the Community Center vestibule at 750 Lakeside Drive that is available 24 hours a day.
  • Online: Online payments using a savings or checking account (EFT) will be free for the 2020 property tax cycle. Credit and debit card payments may be made online but will still have a 2.75% convenience fee added at the time of the transaction.
  • Mail: Payments must be received on or before the due date. Postmarks are not accepted. If you desire a receipt, send a self-addressed stamped envelope along with both portions of the tax bill or supply an email address on the tax bill stub for an electronic receipt.

MOBILITY/BICYCLE ACTION PLAN UPDATE
Help us create our Mobility/Bike Action Plan! We are looking for resident and community member input at John Collins Park on Monday, July 27 from 5 - 7:30 p.m. Where do you like to ride and walk? Are there missing connections? Where are the places you avoid because you feel unsafe? A team of mobility experts will be engaging our community in an interactive activity (with proper social distancing) to gather feedback about our biking and walking infrastructure. Your suggestions will be used to create alternative scenarios for discussion in August and September. Our goal is to complete a mobility plan reflective of community priorities by the end of 2020 to inform funding decisions for the next fiscal year.

TREES AND SHRUBS OBSTRUCTING SIDEWALKS
With the warm weather, trees and plants are growing. Residents are asked to make sure that any trees or shrubs, bushes, etc. are clear from impeding over sidewalks. Chapter 32 section 3.38 of the City Code prohibits trees, shrubs, etc. from obstructing sidewalks. The required height for clearance over a street or sidewalk is 10 feet, meaning that trees can overhang sidewalks at a greater height.

COMMUNITY PARTNERS
GASLIGHT VILLAGE
Please note that Taste of East has been cancelled in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and Gov. Whitmer’s Michigan Safe Start Plan. You can learn more about this decision by visiting gogaslight.com/tasteofeast.

Event organizers ask, if you are able, to consider donating to the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, which is the event’s beneficiary.

KENT DISTRICT LIBRARY REOPENING DELAYED
Please note that our KDL branch has delayed its reopening. Curbside pickups, availability of exterior drop boxes for returns, live-streamed programs and expansion of digital resources are unaffected.

In the meantime, the Friends of the EGR Library will gladly accept your donations of books, CDs and DVDs on Friday afternoons from 3 to 5 p.m. on July 17, 24 and 31. You can drop your donations off at the library's north driveway on the lower level of the Community Center by the Parks & Recreation door. Please do not bring these donations into the library.
