MASTER PLAN SCHEDULE UPDATED

The Master Plan timeline has been updated and presentations from the previous meetings are available for viewing online. The public is invited to all Planning Commission meetings to provide input on the planning process. Visit our website for more details and find out how you can get involved.

Blodgett Hospital: Spectrum Health recently submitted a site plan for changes to the Blodgett campus. The site plan pertains to proposed parking and wayfinding changes. The Planning Commission will hold meetings on February 6 and February 20 both at 5:30 p.m. at the Community Center in the Commission Chambers to review and discuss the submitted plans.  These meetings are open to the public.

CHANGES TO WATER/SEWER RATES

The City Commission recently passed a resolution to increase the sanitary sewer commodity rate by $0.30 per 1,000 gallons of usage effective January 15, 2018. This is a direct result of an increase passed on from the City of Grand Rapids. While East Grand Rapids owns and operates our own water and sewer system, we purchase the water and sanitary sewer treatment services from the City of Grand Rapids. The average user will see a 3% increase per month, or $2.10 per month. This change will take effect with the February 2018 water bills.

GRAND RIVER RAINSCAPING PROGRAM: TREATING STORMWATER NATURALLY

Rainscaping is a method of watershed restoration that promotes green infrastructure awareness and implementation among homeowners, landscapers, and contractors, highlighting both the benefits of green infrastructure and the skills required for installation. Green infrastructure reduces, filters, and stores stormwater runoff using natural techniques and native plants. This project offers homeowners free site assessments on their property to determine what rainscaping practice(s) are suitable for them and is available to anyone within the Lower Grand River Watershed. To learn more about this project or to request a site assessment visit www.LGROW.org/rainscaping.

You can learn more about what LGROW is doing in our community to protect our watersheds in its latest newsletter

LGROW also has a few tips on what you can do to protect our watersheds this winter.
