Running Safety

If you are walking or jogging during dark hours, please remember to wear light-colored, reflective clothing or have some type of blinking light on your clothing or your bike. Do everything possible to make sure drivers can see you in time to steer clear.

The City Commission passed a resolution to increase the sanitary sewer commodity rate by $0.30 per 1,000 gallons of usage effective January 15, 2018. This is a direct result of an increase passed on from the City of Grand Rapids. While East Grand Rapids owns and operates our own water and sewer system, we purchase the water and sanitary sewer treatment services from the City of Grand Rapids. The average user will see a 3% increase per month, or $2.10 per month. This change will take effect with the February 2018 water bills.

The Assessment Notices will be mailed by Feb. 17. The Assessor’s Review will be held on Feb. 26 and 27. March Board of Review hearings will be held March 12 and 13.  Upon receipt of your notice, you can call 616.940.4818 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday to make an appointment for either review. Please look over your Assessment Notice as Assessor’s Review and March Board of Review are the only times a valuation issue can be resolved.

The Consumer Price Index for assessment purposes for the 2018 year is 2.1%. If there was NOT a transfer of ownership on your property in 2017, your 2018 taxable value is calculated by multiplying your 2017 taxable value by 1.021. Physical changes of your property may also increase or decrease your taxable value. If there was a transfer of ownership on your property in 2017, your 2018 taxable value will be the same as your 2018 state equalized value.

If you have any questions, you can email Vicki Vander Lugt, assessor, at or Stacey Hayes, deputy assessor, at or call 616.940.4818.
