East Named Best Place to Live in Michigan

We're honored to be included in HomeSnacks' list of best places to be in Michigan. This year, EGR took the top ranking. With our wonderful public schools,  Gaslight Village, beautiful parks and passionate residents, we couldn't agree more that we live in a special community!

August 7 Primary Election

Absentee ballots are available at city hall or by contacting us at 949.2110. On election day, polls will be open 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. at your usual polling location. Click here for info on registration, locations or absentee voting or to see what’s on your ballot.

Boats, Trailers and RV’s

Outdoor storage of boats, trailers and RVs is allowed for up to 72 hours on streets and driveways. Otherwise, they must be stored indoors, or in a rear yard only, and then they must be reasonably shielded from view. Not all properties are capable of accommodating such storage, so you might have to seek offsite storage for your “recreational unit.”

Bike Lock Give-Away

Public Safety will be at the Middle School on Aug. 13 during orientation registering bikes and giving away free bike locks. Just bring your student's bike with you to orientation.

Construction Projects

Summer construction projects are currently underway. The Breton Road project, which is taking place from Lake Drive to the south City limit, is anticipated to be completed in mid-August. Please note, only vehicles who are going to or from home or deliveries to a specific address on Breton Road are allowed to enter this construction area using the shortest distance possible.  Vehicles in this site make it unsafe for the construction workers and also impede project progress.

The 2018-19 sidewalk rehabilitation program is scheduled to begin in August on the the southern most section of the city around Breton Downs.

Yard Sign Reminder

Whether for fundraisers, yard sales, contractors or political candidates, temporary signs are very popular around this time of year. If you are planning to have a sign in your yard, please note there are a few rules to follow:
  • Temporary signs must be at least five feet back from the public sidewalk.
  • Contractor signs are allowed only during the work – not from when you sign the deal until the last payment is made. You can always have your contractor contact us about specific questions.
  • They are never allowed between the sidewalk and the street, especially where clear vision would be obstructed, or anywhere else on public property.
  • Signs may not be attached to telephone poles or street lamps.
Questions? Give Public Works a call at 616.940.4817.
