East Express Header Summer 2018

East Express | July 18, 2019

THANKS FOR JOINING US!

Thank you to all those who came out to enjoy all the 4th of July activities! It was a beautiful day to gather as a community and enjoy our home together.

Special thanks to Spectrum Health for sponsoring the day-long celebration.

THE TASTE OF EAST GRAND RAPIDS

One of our favorite community events is just around the corner! Make sure you keep the evening of Thursday, Aug. 15 open, so you can head over to Gaslight Village with your family, friends and neighbors.

Taste of East will once again benefit the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital. For more information visit gogaslight.com/tasteofeast

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT

National Night Out is August 6! If you're planning a block party, you can register with the City so Public Safety can send police cars and firetrucks to visit. Register on our website

MOVIES & CONCERTS IN THE PARK

Enjoy the last concert of the season on July 22. Mark Lavengood will perform in John Collins Park starting at 7 p.m.

Featuring Grease and Trolls, our two remaining movies will be presented on July 26 and Aug. 16 respectively. Don’t forget to stop by Gaslight Village to pick up a cool treat or grab some take out before the show — no movie night is complete without a great snack!

For more information, visit our website.

PARKS & REC FIVE-YEAR MASTER PLAN

Thank you to all those who have participated in the Community Park, Recreation, Open Space and Greenway Plan through our survey and public workshops. Your input has been crucial to the Parks & Recreation Department, helping it understand what improvements EGR residents are looking for in our parks.

Parks & Rec will continue working on the plan by gathering all your feedback and additional information and will present it to the City Commission in October.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Visit our construction webpage — which is updated weekly — to stay informed of construction projects in EGR.

Please note Plymouth Road will be closed to through traffic only between Lake Drive and Wealthy Street from July 31 through Aug. 2 and Aug. 5 through Aug. 9 for adjacent construction demobilization.  Traffic will be open to local traffic only for adjacent residents and for hospital access.

Water system stop box surveying is being completed by Public Works and contractors on portions of Oakwood and Elmwood between Conlon and Lake, Boston between Conlon and York and Eastlawn between Hall and Anderson in advance of water main rehabilitation work planned to start in late August/early September. Water stop boxes are being located via hydro excavation and then backfilled with sand. Residents in these areas can expect to receive notices for construction pending project approval in the near future.

TALL GRASS REMINDER

Please note that the Property Maintenance Code (IPMC) adopted by the City allows for a maximum height limit of grass at five inches.

FENCES

If you are planning maintenance, replacement or constructing a fence, you may need a fence permit. Please view fence ordinance regulations as well as the free permit by visiting our website.
