THE TASTE OF EAST GRAND RAPIDS

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Visit our construction webpage — which is updated weekly — to stay informed of construction projects in EGR.

Please note that Plymouth Road will be closed to through traffic only between Lake Drive and Wealthy Street from July 31 to Aug. 2 and Aug. 5 to Aug. 9 for adjacent construction demobilization.  Traffic will be open to local traffic only-for adjacent residents and for hospital access.

Water main utility work will be commencing in August for the following areas:
  • Beechwood Drive from 2746 Beechwood to Lake Drive
  • Oakwood Drive from Conlon Avenue to Lake Drive
  • Elmwood Drive from Conlon Avenue to Lake Drive
  • Boston Street from Conlon Avenue to Lake Grove Avenue/York Drive
  • Eastlawn Road from Hall Street to Anderson Drive
Notices will be sent to residents in these areas shortly before work begins.

LAKESIDE DRIVE PAVEMENT MARKING CHANGES

The City has nearly completed pavement markings along Lakeside Drive from Reeds Lake Blvd to Lake Drive. The parking study that was conducted as a part of the 2018 Master Plan recommended that on-street parking along Lakeside Drive could be more efficient and enhanced by defining parking spaces with pavement markings (similar to Wealthy Street in Gaslight Village between Lakeside and Lovett). With the elimination of gaps often left from undefined spaces between vehicles and added spaces, approximately 20 new spaces were created.

THE BROUWERS AGENCY MOVIES IN THE PARK

Our last movie musical is Trolls, which will be featured at dusk in John Collins Park on Friday, Aug. 16. Swing by Gaslight Village to pick your favorite snacks and treats before the showing!

PROTECT YOUR WATERSHED & WATER QUALITY

The Department of Public Works would like to remind residents that only rain goes in the drain.  The City of East Grand Rapids maintains a storm sewer system that discharges storm water into local watersheds.  Here are some tips to help reduce flooding and have a positive impact on water quality in our local watersheds:
  • Keep yard waste and debris out of the street. This debris can clog catch basins which can cause temporary flooding of streets and can also fill catch basins and end up ultimately in the watershed. You can help by clearing any accumulation of leaves and debris and properly disposing of these items in your yard waste bags or container. You can also help by not blowing or sweeping grass clippings or leaves into the street.
  • Please clean up after your pets. Pet waste is a major source of bacteria and nutrients that are harmful to waterways. Pet waste that is not properly disposed of can end up getting into storm drain catch basins and into our watersheds.
  • Use fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides sparingly and follow the manufacturer's instructions or use alternative natural methods.
