East Grand Rapids, Michigan, May 9, 2019 – The East Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation Department announced it will once again hold two favorite summer entertainment series: The Brouwers Agency Movies in the Park and Consumers Credit Union Concerts in the Park.
Free to the public, both series will be held at John Collins Park, 650 Lakeside Drive SE and will feature family-friendly movies and music.
Running from June through September, the 2019 Movies in the Park lineup has a theme of musicals and includes four popular movies:
- June 14 -- Beauty and the Beast
- July 12 -- Mary Poppins Returns
- July 26 -- Grease
- August 16 -- Trolls
“We’re especially looking forward to this year’s musical-themed line up,” said Rachel Seese, event coordinator. “A combination of classic and modern stories set to music will have the entire family singing and dancing along.”
Movies begin at dusk and popcorn will be available for purchase with proceeds benefiting the KDL teen library programs. In case of inclement weather – including threat of rain or high winds – the movie will be canceled and rescheduled for Sept. 13 if circumstances allow.
Movies in the Park is sponsored by The Brouwers Agency, Auto-Owners Insurance, the East Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation Department and the Friends of the EGR Library.
In addition to the motion picture entertainment, six select Monday evenings in June and July will also bring Concerts in the Park, which highlights local musicians.
This year’s concert lineup is:
- June 10 -- JMM Jazz
- June 17 -- Matt Gabriel Trio
- June 24 -- Calder City Band
- July 8 -- August
- July 15 -- Chandler Reed and the Sticky Keys
- July 22 -- Mark Lavengood
Sponsored by Consumers Credit Union, concerts will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
“The Brouwers Agency, Auto-Owners Insurance and Consumers Credit Union make it possible for families to gather and enjoy beautiful summer evenings on the shores of Reeds Lake,” said Pam Slater, event coordinator. “Their continuous support allows us to bring these community-favorite events back each year and create incredible experiences.”
Those attending either event are advised to bring their own chairs or blankets and to arrive early to secure a spot. Barbeques, grilling, open fires or alcohol are not allowed in the park and dogs must be kept on a leash at all times.
