From Dec. 3 to Dec. 31, the EGR City Commission will accept applications for the open First Ward commissioner position.
Due to Katie Favale’s recent election to Mayor, her previous First Ward position on the City Commission is currently vacant. When such an event occurs, the City Commission must appoint a new member to fill the vacancy within 90 days.
Once the application deadline has expired, Mayor Favale and the Commission will review the applications and appoint the new commissioner to serve the remaining two years in this term to represent resident voices from the First Ward of the City.
The East Grand Rapids City Commission sets policies, enacts ordinances and approves purchases and contracts for services. In addition, the Commission also acts as the Zoning Board of Appeals and hears requests from residents seeking variances for building projects that do not meet zoning requirements.
First Ward residents who are interested can apply in person at City Hall, 750 Lakeside Dr. SE, or online. Please include a cover letter detailing your interest and any relevant experience.
The First Ward encompasses the north side of East Grand Rapids and includes those who vote at the Community Center or at the EGR Middle School.
