East Grand Rapids, Michigan, January 23, 2020 — The East Grand Rapids Public Safety Department announced it will hold quarterly community engagement meetings for EGR residents, employees and community members.
Through the meetings, the department hopes to strengthen relationships and increase its interaction with residents and the general public in an open dialogue setting. Participants will be able to ask questions and meet officers from each shift while Chief Mark Herald and Captain Ric Buikema address topics of relevance, interest or importance to the community.
Held in the Commission Chambers at the Community Center, 750 Lakeside Dr. SE, the first meeting will take place on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. with the following agenda items:
“We are always looking for ways to connect with those who live, work and play in East,” said Chief Herald. “In addition to our annual open house, daily school interactions and block party visits, these more frequent and regular meetings will provide another opportunity for us to all get to know each other in a personal way while discussing real concerns and the facts of important topics facing our community.
“We welcome and encourage all questions as we believe open dialogue between our department and community members is critical. We’re looking forward to this new engagement opportunity as we continue to build strong relationships with everyone we serve.”
Subsequent meetings will take place on April 30, July 23 and Oct. 15. No RSVP is required.
