The East Grand Rapids Public Safety Department announced it will again hold quarterly community engagement meetings for EGR residents, employees and community members.
Through these meetings, the department hopes to strengthen relationships and increase its interaction with residents and the general public in an open dialogue setting. The department began holding the quarterly meetings in January 2020 and has found them to be helpful for community discussion.
Participants will be able to ask questions and meet officers from each shift while Chief Mark Herald and Captain Ric Buikema address topics of relevance, interest or importance to the community.
Due to the evolving nature of the pandemic, the first meeting will take place virtually on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. with the following agenda items:
1. Welcome, introductions & purpose of meetings – Chief Herald
2. Meet C Shift
3. Understanding the Fire Service – Apparatus, equipment, tactics, etc.
4. Standing agenda item – Traffic and other safety concerns
5. Roundtable – Your thoughts
Subsequent meetings will take place on May 13, Aug. 26 and Dec. 9. No RSVP is required.
